PBIS
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a research‑based, tiered framework that helps schools support students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. PBIS focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors so that all students can succeed. When schools implement PBIS effectively, it leads to:
- Improved social‑emotional skills
- Stronger academic outcomes
- A more positive and predictable school climate
- Better staff wellbeing and support
Overall, PBIS helps create a safe, equitable, and encouraging learning environment where students and staff can thrive.
PBIS at Queens Transition Center
At Queens Transition Center, we are currently re‑establishing and restructuring our PBIS program to better meet the needs of our students and staff. Our PBIS approach is grounded in our school‑wide acronym V.O.I.C.E., which stands for:
- Vision
- Opportunity
- Independence
- Community
- Empathy
The PBIS program will be implemented across all of our sites and aligned with our V.O.I.C.E. behavioral matrix. This matrix clearly outlines the positive behaviors we expect students to demonstrate throughout the school community, helping us all work toward a respectful, supportive, and successful school environment.
