From the Desk of Shakir Lavergne, Ed.D.

AP LavergneDear Students, Families, and Staff,

Hello and welcome! My name is Shakir Lavergne, Ed.D., and I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal of Queens Transition Center (QTC). I have been part of the QTC community since 2022, and I am proud to work alongside staff and families to support our students during this important stage of their lives.

I have spent my entire career in NYC Public Schools in District 75, holding a variety of roles including special education teacher, instructional coach, dean, and assistant principal. These experiences have helped me better understand the diverse strengths and needs of our students and the importance of strong school-family partnerships.

As a school leader, my greatest priority is making sure our students are prepared for life beyond high school. At QTC, we focus on supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally while helping them develop the skills they need for independence, confidence, and success. I bring a strong background in special education, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), data, Structured Teaching, and curriculum, just to name a few, to this work and to the initiatives we implement to support student growth.

Families are essential partners in our work. My door is always open—staff, students, and I often joke that my office feels like Grand Central Station, and I take that as a compliment. I truly believe that when schools and families work together, students thrive, and I am committed to building and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with our families.

I chose a career in education because I was fortunate to have supportive teachers who believed in me, and I wanted to be that same source of support for other students and families. What motivates me most is our students—their progress, resilience, and successes inspire me every day. And just for fun, one fun fact about me is that I’ve traveled to all 50 states!

Thank you for being a valued part of the Queens Transition Center community. I look forward to working with you and supporting your child’s journey.

Warmly,

Shakir Lavergne, Ed.D.
